Causes

A pancreatic abscess is frequently affecting people with :

  •        Pancreatic pseudocyst
  •        Severe inflammation of the pancreas that becomes infected

Diagnostics

Adding to the physical examination, your doctor may request the following imaging tests :

  •        Abdominal CT scan
  •        MRI of the abdomen

Treatment

  •        Antibiotics (imipenem, metronidazole + fluoroquinolone)
  •        Abscess drainage can be done through an endoscope using endoscopic ultrasound in some cases.
  •        Surgery to drain the abscess and remove dead tissue is often needed.
