Frontal Lobe Epilepsy

Description

Frontal Lobe Epilepsy

Frontal lobe seizures are a specific type of partial (focal) epilepsy. This indicates that a single area of the brain rather than several does epileptic activity.

A period of aberrant electrical activity in the front portion of your brain, behind your forehead, causes a frontal lobe seizure. Of the four brain lobes, the frontal lobes are the biggest. They are in charge of personality traits and behavior, cognition (thinking, learning and remembering), movement, and speech.

Symptoms

Most frontal lobe seizures end within 30 seconds. Recovery occurs quickly in various circumstances. Frontal lobe seizure warning signs and symptoms could include :

  •        Movement of the head and eyes to the side
  •        Complete or partial inactivity, or trouble speaking.
  •        Screaming or laughing violently, including using foul language
  •        Abnormal body language, such as extending one arm while flexing the other as though the individual were posing like a fencing.
  •        Repetitive motions, such as riding a bicycle, swaying, or propulsion of the pelvis.

Complications of frontal lobe epilepsy include :

  •        Status epilepticus
  •        Injury
  •        Sudden unexplained death in epilepsy (SUDEP)
  •        Depression and anxiety

If you have any of these symptoms visit a Neurologist to be diagnosed and treated properly.

  •       Autosomal dominant nocturnal frontal lobe epilepsy (rare inherited disorder)

Diagnostics

The tests listed below can help in Frontal Lobe Epilepsy diagnosis and evaluation :

  •        Electroencephalography (EEG) to measure electrical brain waves.
  •       Brain scans such as MRI
  •        Stereo electroencephalography (SEEG)
  •        Video EEG

Treatment

The cause of the seizures, additional medical issues, and other factors all affect the type of treatment that is utilized.

  •        Anti-seizures medication
  •        Neuromodulation
  •        Surgery
  •        Dietary changes
  •        Lifestyle modifications and avoiding triggers.
