Indication & Usage
Telfast Decongestant for the relief of symptoms associated with seasonal allergic rhinitis in adults and children 12 years of age and older. Symptoms treated effectively include sneezing, rhinorrhea, itchy nose/palate/ and/or throat, itchy/watery/red eyes, and nasal congestion.
Side Effects
-Common side effects due to fexofenadine: Headache, vomiting (children 6 months to 5 years)
-Less common side effects due to fexofenadine: Drowsiness , fatigue , dizziness , pain , diarrhea , nausea , dyspepsia , dysmenorrhea, myalgia , back pain , limb pain Otitis media , cough , rhinorrhea, fever
-Post marketing surveillance (<1%) revealed that it may cause hypersensitivity reaction (including anaphylaxis, angioedema, chest tightness, dyspnea, flushing, pruritus, skin rash, urticaria).
-Pseudoephedrine may cause cardiac arrhythmia, chest tightness, circulatory shock (with hypotension), hypertension, palpitations, tachycardia, ataxia, central nervous system stimulation (transient), chills, confusion, dizziness, drowsiness, excitability, fatigue, hallucination, headache, insomnia, nervousness, neuritis, restlessness, seizure, vertigo
diaphoresis, skin photosensitivity, skin rash, urticaria, anorexia, constipation, diarrhea, dry throat, ischemic colitis, nausea, vomiting, xerostomia, difficulty in micturition, dysuria, urinary retention.
Pregnancy & Lactation
-Agents other than fexofenadine are preferred for the treatment of allergic conditions, such as rhinitis, pruritus, and urticaria, in pregnant women
-Information specific to fexofenadine and breastfeeding has not been located. When treatment with an antihistamine is needed in breastfeeding women, other second generation antihistamines with more information available regarding their use in this patient population are preferred.
