Medical Description
Corticosteroid used in the treatment of asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, gout, inflammatory bowel disease, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, adrenal insufficiency and other inflammatory conditions.
Indication & Usage
Solupred Oro (prednisolone) is indicated for conditions requiring systemic corticosteroid therapy, including:
Allergic disorders (severe allergy, asthma exacerbations)
Inflammatory and autoimmune diseases (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis, lupus)
Dermatologic diseases
Respiratory diseases
Hematologic disorders
Endocrine disorders (adrenal insufficiency – adjunct)
Gastrointestinal inflammatory diseases
Adjunct in certain oncologic protocols

Dosage & Administration
Dose is individualized according to disease severity and response
Adults: commonly 5–60 mg/day in single or divided doses
Children: dose based on body weight or surface area
Tablet dissolves on the tongue; may also be dispersed in a small amount of water
Preferably taken in the morning after food
Do not stop abruptly; taper gradually if used >1–2 weeks

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to prednisolone
Systemic fungal infections
Live vaccines during high-dose therapy
Precautions

Stress-dose may be required during surgery or severe illness

Drug Interactions
NSAIDs → ↑ GI ulcer/bleeding
Antidiabetics → reduced glucose control
Antihypertensives → reduced effect
Enzyme inducers (rifampicin, phenytoin) → ↓ prednisolone effect
Live vaccines → infection risk
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy: Use only if benefit outweighs risk; prolonged use may affect fetal growth
Lactation: Excreted in breast milk in small amounts; generally compatible at low doses
