Medical Description
Antibiotic (belongs to the Fluoroquinolone group) and a corticosteroid combination therapy used in the treatment of acute otitis externa and acute Otitis media.
Indication & Usage
-Acute otitis externa: Otic: Instill 4 drops into affected ear(s) twice daily for 7 days.
-Pediatric dosing:
-Acute Otitis media(with typmanostomy tubes): Infants ≥6 months, children, and adolescents: Otic: Instill 4 drops into affected ear(s) twice daily for 7 days.
-Acute Otitis externa: Infants ≥6 months, children, and adolescents: Otic: Instill 4 drops into affected ear(s) twice daily for 7 days.

Dosage & Administration
-Prior to instillation, bottle should be warmed in hands for 1 to 2 minutes.
-Shake suspension well immediately before using.
-Patient should lie with affected ear upward and remain in this position for 60 seconds following application.
-In case of acute otitis externa: Gently pull the outer ear lobe upward and backward to allow the drops to flow down into the ear canal.
Side Effects
Pruritus of ear, otalgia, auditory impairment, dizziness, dysgeusia, ear redness, ear residue, debris, or precipitate; eustachian tube congestion, irritability, oral candidiasis, superinfection, tingling of the ears, tinnitus and tympanostomy tube blockage.
Safety Advice
-For otic use only; not intended for injection or ophthalmic use.
-To avoid dizziness which may result from the instillation of a cold solution, warm bottle in hand for 1 to 2 minutes prior to use.
-Patient should lie with affected ear upward and maintain position for 60 seconds after suspension is instilled.
-Should not be given to patients suffering from hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin, other fluoroquinolones, dexamethasone, or any component of the formulation.
-Should not be given to patients suffering from viral infection of the external canal, including herpes simplex infections; fungal otic infections.
-In pediatric patients, use of quinolone ear drops after tympanostomy tube placement may increase the risk of tympanic rupture.

Drug Interactions
There are no known significant interactions.
Pregnancy & Lactation
-Ciprofloxacin and dexamethasone have minimal systemic absorption following otic administration, limiting any potential exposure to the fetus.
-It is not known if ciprofloxacin or dexamethasone are present in breast milk following otic administration, the decision to breastfeed during therapy should consider the risk of infant exposure, the benefits of breastfeeding to the infant, and the benefits of treatment to the mother.
-Ask your physician before taking any medication during pregnancy and lactation.
