Medical Description
Decongestant belongs to Alpha-adrenergic agonists used intranasally in the treatment of nasal congestion.
Indication & Usage
Otrivin Adult 0.1% is indicated for temporary relief of nasal congestion associated with:
Common cold
Allergic rhinitis
Sinusitis
Nasal congestion following upper respiratory infections
Active Ingredients
Xylometazoline
Recommended Doctors
Dosage & Administration
Adults & adolescents ≥12 years:
2–3 drops in each nostril up to 2–3 times daily
Do not use for more than 3–5 consecutive days
Clean the nose before use
Side Effects
Local burning or stinging
Nasal dryness or irritation
Sneezing
Rebound congestion with prolonged use
Rare/systemic:
Palpitations
Headache
Increased blood pressure

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to xylometazoline
Atrophic rhinitis
Recent transnasal or pituitary surgery
Precautions
Avoid prolonged use (risk of rhinitis medicamentosa)
Use cautiously in hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, hyperthyroidism
Avoid concomitant use with other sympathomimetics
For nasal use only

MAO inhibitors or TCAs → increased cardiovascular effects
Other sympathomimetics → additive effects
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy: Use only if clearly needed and for short duration
