Medical Description
Laxative combination therapy used in the treatment of constipation, bowel evacuation for the preparation of patients for gastrointestinal surgeries and for the prevention of constipation in patients suffering from anal fissures and hemorrhoids.
Indication & Usage
Laxatives are used to treat constipation if lifestyle changes have failed to resolve the constipation or if the person has a medical condition (such as angina) that may be exacerbated by straining.

Dosage & Administration
Constipation
5-15 mg PO once daily; if complete evacuation required, 30 mg PO once daily.

Avoid chronic use; may cause laxative dependence
Avoid using in patients with gastroenteritis
Do not chew tablet; swallow whole
Not for use within 1 hour of taking antacid or milk
Not recommended for children < 6 years because of requirement to swallow tablets
Not to be used for >1 week
Storage
Laxatives and antidiarrhoeals should be kept in a cool and dry place. Unless specified on the label, medicines should not be stored in refrigerators. Furthermore, drugs should be kept properly in places unreachable by children to prevent accidental ingestion.
- Short term use is generally considered safe in pregnancy; avoid long term use.
- Not detected in excreted milk following administration of 10 mg/day for 7 days; use with caution.
