Medical Description
Combination therapy consisting of an expectorant and an antihistamine (Histamine H1 Antagonist) used in the treatment of productive cough associated with allergic lesions of the respiratory tract or with bronchitis and pneumonia.
Indication & Usage
-Avipect is used in in the treatment of productive cough associated with allergic lesions of the respiratory tract or with Bronchitis, bronchopneumonia.
-Dosage & method of use:
Dosage Adults: 1 1/2 - 2 teaspoonfuls 2-3 times daily.
Dosage Children: aged 4 Months -1Year 1/2 teaspoonful 2-3 times daily, Children aged 1-5 Years 1/2-1 teaspoonful 2-3 times daily.

Dosage & Administration
-Shouldn’t be taken on empty stomach.
-Doses should be adjusted according to the patient's activities, because it affects the alertness.
Side Effects
Drowsiness, gastrointestinal upset, urinary retention, dryness of the mouth, hallucination after the administration of high doses, it may increase the intra-ocular pressure for the patients with narrow angle glaucoma.
Safety Advice
-Not preferred for the patients with impaired hepatic and renal functions.
-Not used for patients suffering from prostatic hypertrophy.
-Not used for patients suffering from an allergy to any of its components.
-Even the use according to the prescribed doses can affect the patient alertness to an extent that can interfere with the ability to drive or operate machinery, so the doses should be adjusted according to the patient's activities.

Drug Interactions
-Alcohol: Avipect may potentiate the sedative effect of alcohol.
-tranquilizers: Avipect may potentiate it's effect.
-Monoamine oxidase inhibitors: Avipect may potentiate it's effect.
Pregnancy & Lactation
-It should be used if strictly indicated specially during the first three months of pregnancy.
-Always ask your physician or pharmacist before using any medication during pregnancy and lactation.
