
Adnexal tumors are masses that grow in the fallopian tubes, ovaries, and the tissues around the uterus. Most of them are benign and can affect women at different ages. They are a frequent occurrence in women of reproductive age. With age, young women are more likely to develop malignant adnexal masses.

The causes of the adnexal tumors may be related to abnormalities in female reproductive organs or other causes.

Non-gynecologic causes :
Abscesses, cysts, and cancers of the gastrointestinal tract or other abdominal or pelvic organs.
Adnexal tumors are usually discovered by incidence during a routine gynecologic examination or ultrasound imaging.
If the tumor is large in size or causes symptoms to the patient, then it should be removed surgically. However, if it doesn’t cause any problems, no intervention is needed. If malignancy is suspected then the patient should be referred to a Gynaecologic oncologist.
